Students invited to DADCA luncheons
The Dayton Area Defense Contractor's Association (DADCA) has invited the some CECS students to participate in their organization's monthly luncheon meetings. Each month the meetings will provide insight on a specific topic by a distinguished keynote speaker and opportunities in the local defense industry market will be highlighted.
In addition, the Dayton Business Journal has agreed to spotlight one of our CECS/STEM students each month. Students asked to attend the luncheons included:

Students invited to attend Wright Dialogue with Industry Conference
The Dayton Area Defense Contractor's Association (DADCA) hosted the Wright Dialogue with Industry at a two-day conference, being held on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base's Hope Hotel on July 15 and 16. This conference is the only formal Dayton Area Air Force Research Laboratory briefing to industry in 2008 and provides an opportunity for industry and the Air Force Researchers to discuss AFRL mission areas, upcoming requirements, and critical technology gaps facing the warfighter. Representation from all ten AFRL Directorates including AFRL SBIR were present and key leaders of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) organization discussed both current and future business opportunities.
DADCA invited the following WSU CECS students to attend and participate in the Wright Dialogue with Industry Conference this month:

Outstanding CEG and CS Students
Brian Birkmire was selected as the 2008 recipient of the Outstanding Student in Computer Engineering.
Kristin Motlagh was selected as the 2008 recipient of the Outstanding Student in Computer Science in the Bachelor of Arts program.
Ben McDonie was selected as the 2008 recipient of the Outstanding Student in Computer Science in the Bachelor of Science program.

Jennifer Engimann (CSE) was among the first recipients of a $1,500 scholarship from WSU's Women in Science Giving Circle (WISGC). The WISGC strives to encourage more women to pursue STEM degrees by providing scholarships and research grants.

LawnBot Team brings home 1st Place win
The 2008 WSU LawnBot team won first place for the second year in a row at the Institute of Navigation's (ION) Annual Robotic Lawn Mower Competition held June 5-8 at Siebenthaler's Garden Center in Beavercreek. The 1st place prize comes with a $15,000 award for the team.

New Course offered in Software Testing
New Course Announcement for Fall 2008
CEG 399/599 - Introduction to Software Testing
Description:
This course introduces software testing strategies and established best practices for testing software in a systematic manner. Focus is on planning, writing, and executing a software test plan along with documented results. Various projects are assigned, designed to illustrate various challenges associated with software testing, and to reinforce the strategies and techniques used to overcome these challenges.
Prerequisites: CS 242
Textbook: Lee Copeland, A Practioner's Guide to Software Test Design, Artech House, 2004, ISBN 978-1-58053-791-9. This is a required textbook for this course.
Instructor: Dr. John Reisner
Course Objectives:
The student should learn and understand:
- How comprehensive test plans benefit verifying program correctness.
- How effective testing strategies can be determined for different needs.
- How drivers, stubs, and testware are used to test a program.
- How software testing can be conducted effectively and the results documented.
- How software can be developed using a test-driven approach.
