Girls Ready to Explore Engineering Now (GREEN)
Aug 3-6, 2010
The GREEN Program is a fun-filled 4-day residential camp for rising 7th,
8th, and 9th grade girls. Campers will experience engineering in the
real world and the academic world through interesting design projects,
tours, interactive activities and much, much more! Girls will be
supervised 24-hours a day by current engineering students, trained in
CPR and First Aid, as well as staff from the College of Engineering and
Computer Science.
Here are some of the fun things participants did in previous years:
- Work with your peers to create a sea vessel made completely out of
cardboard! Test your invention when you 'float your boat in the moat' during
the competition on the last day of camp.
- Hear from professional woman engineers. They will share their
experiences and energize you to think of a career in engineering, math or
science.
- Work in pairs to biopsy a tumor! See advances in medical imaging that
aid in diagnosis and less invasive procedures. Put your skills to the text
when you biopsy a tumor out of Jello.
- Create a container that will protect a chip as it travels through the
mail. See if your container was a success once you return home from
camp.
- Construct a parachute that won't drop its precious cargo as it makes a
two-story fall. Design, construct and test your contraption.
- Have fun with new friends during 'Late Night with CREC.' Swim in the
pool, participate in sporting activities or just relax in the Student Union
after a hard days work!
- Create an ice cream sundae masterpiece while closely following
directions. Then enjoy your creation while watching a movie.
- Participate in laboratory demonstrations from Wright State University
faculty and students.
- Build a bridge out of K'NEX. See how much weight it can hold at
the exciting conclusion of the camp.
- Make a dress that is 'one size fits all.' Walk the runway and
learn how human factors engineers help the world.
- Learn what makes a computer mouse work. Grab your screwdriver!
- Wire hangers can be more than clothes hangers. Make a trebuchet
and test your accuracy.
- Make new friends, experience a college residence hall, discover
engineering and find out what interests YOU!
The GREEN Program cost is $275, and includes housing, linens, meals, and
supplies. The camp is limited to 36 participants.
Space will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration forms and
payment must be received by July 1, 2010. No refunds will be given after July 1.
